Salim Al-Aufi, the Minister of Energy of Oman, recently urged gas producers and traders to seek new routes for transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) instead of the Strait of Hormuz. This request comes in light of ongoing disruptions in the transit of shipments due to the current conflicts in the Persian Gulf.
Disruptions in Liquefied Gas Transit
The Minister of Energy of Oman specifically highlighted the necessity of identifying alternative export options, stating: "Alternative export options must be identified, and possible routes from the north - either through Oman or through Yemen - should be examined." These remarks come at a time when recent developments in the region have further highlighted the Gulf countries' dependence on a single waterway for a significant portion of their exports.

ADNOC's Actions and Oman's Export Facilities
According to available reports, ADNOC is also exploring the construction of new facilities for liquefied gas exports outside the Strait of Hormuz. In this context, Oman has an LNG export facility in the eastern part of the country that is not directly dependent on the Strait of Hormuz. This move is significant as it allows Oman to continue its exports independently of risky routes.
The ongoing war and conflicts in the region have compelled Gulf countries to seek alternative solutions to continue exports and sustain their economies. The discussion around northern routes from Oman or using the Yemeni route as possible options has become one of the key focal points of dialogue among players in this market. These developments indicate that countries in the region are looking to diversify their export options.
Currently, diversifying export routes, especially for liquefied natural gas, is an undeniable necessity, particularly as conflicts in the Persian Gulf continue.
