The sale of the Karolos tanker for $90 million has attracted the attention of many brokers. This non-eco tanker, owned by Dynacom Tankers led by George Prokopiou, was built in December 2009 in China and has a capacity of 150,000 DWT.
Transaction Details and Pricing
The sale price of this tanker seems very high compared to previous transactions in the market. For instance, another Suezmax tanker that was only 9 years old was sold for nearly $100 million a few weeks ago. This price increase in the tanker market is particularly notable as the daily charter rate for a Suezmax in the Mediterranean has reached $372,600.

Analysis of the Tanker Market Situation
The sale of the Karolos follows another transaction in August involving the Sonangol Namibe tanker. This tanker, which was 19 years old and had a capacity of 158,425 DWT, was sold for nearly $50 million. These transactions occur while the age of the tanker fleet and pressures from sanctions and environmental restrictions have impacted the market.
It is noteworthy that the tanker market regularly faces price fluctuations, which can be due to changes in global oil demand and supply, sanction policies, and also changes in environmental regulations. Given these conditions, it seems that the current high prices in the tanker market may persist.
