Woodside, the Australian energy giant, is competing with global markets with significant advancements in three major gas projects. These projects include the Scarborough project in the waters off Western Australia, the Trion project in the waters of Mexico, and the Louisiana LNG project in the Gulf of Mexico.
Details of the Scarborough Project
The Scarborough project, which is nearing its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment, is 99 percent complete as of the end of the third quarter of 2026 and is fully underway. Activities include the commissioning of subsea production systems and well clearance for gas export to pipelines. Woodside's CEO, Meg O'Neill, stated that the results of the well clearance align with expectations regarding reservoir and well performance.
In this context, pre-commissioning and integration of the floating production unit (FPU) are also underway. The first LNG shipment is expected to be delivered to the market in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Trion and Louisiana LNG Projects
The Trion project in Mexico is also under development with 71 percent completion at the end of the third quarter of this year. In this project, 10 out of 24 wells have been drilled, and the first subsea tree has been installed. Subsea equipment and dockable floating units (DTM) have been sent to Mexico to commence offshore installations.
The Louisiana LNG project is also under construction with 32 percent completion. The construction of the LNG terminal is making significant progress in marine works and LNG tank construction. In this project, the wall of LNG tank number 1 has reached 50 percent completion. Woodside has also announced that focus on steel structures and piping is progressing.
These advancements come at a time when global energy markets are facing significant volatility, and Woodside is striving to remain a reliable supplier in this market. In the third quarter of this year, the company's daily production reached 46.2 million barrels of oil equivalent, reflecting a 12 percent increase compared to the previous quarter.
Woodside is also negotiating with quality parties for investment participation and LNG purchases. The company aims to secure its first LNG shipment in 2029 and has pointed out challenges in sourcing structural steel due to ongoing disruptions in the Middle East, which it is managing by utilizing alternative routes and resources.
