In conclusion, the NTSB has warned local firefighters of the need for a specific understanding of how to combat marine fires. Two firefighters lost their lives in response to the fire aboard the Grande Costa D'Avorio, and six others were injured. Therefore, the NTSB recommends that fire departments can improve their firefighters' safety by sending personnel to advanced training in marine firefighting and developing standard operating procedures.
