Mostafa Mottahedin has been chosen as the new CEO of Esteghlal Club. This decision was made by the club's board of directors following the end of Ali Tajernia's interim period. Mottahedin joined the Esteghlal board in July 2023 and will now take on the executive responsibilities of the club.
Mottahedin's Background and Experience
Mottahedin, who was previously not well-known, holds a PhD in Business Management with a focus on Oil and Gas and has over 30 years of experience in managing and executing various projects. Before joining Esteghlal, he was the CEO of the specialized holding company of consulting engineers of Khatam al-Anbia Construction Headquarters, where he worked on projects related to industry, mining, and oil.
New Challenges at Esteghlal
The new CEO of Esteghlal will face a completely different environment from industrial projects. Challenges such as transfers, player contracts, FIFA cases, and communication with fans require high speed and accuracy. Mottahedin needs to gain new experiences in these areas, as his football background may raise questions.
Mottahedin's appointment as the new CEO of Esteghlal means that the club's owner has trusted a manager from within its structure. He must clearly separate economic and football responsibilities and choose specialized sports managers to achieve desirable results. Given that Mottahedin has no football background, his success in this position will depend on his ability to manage these specific challenges.
Mottahedin announced in May 2024 that the Petrochemical Industry Development Management Company (PIDMCO) manages about 25 projects with an investment of over $11 billion. Therefore, his project management experiences could positively impact the administration of Esteghlal, but adapting to the new conditions in football is also of special importance.
