More than 3 million car owners in Iran have not yet received their fuel cards. According to the latest statistics, the total number of vehicles eligible for fuel cards across the country is 24 million. This means that at least 12 percent of fuel cards have not yet reached their destination.

Implementation date of the new refueling plan

The National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company announced on May 30 that from August 10, obtaining gasoline from supply stations will only be possible with personal fuel cards. The aim of this plan is to prevent abuse and combat fuel smuggling. Officials from the Ministry of Oil have stated in their discussions that the company is working to deliver the issued cards to car owners within the remaining time.

Challenges in distributing fuel cards

The connection of bank cards to fuel cards has recently been canceled, and thus, to implement the refueling program with personal fuel cards, all those who have applied for a duplicate fuel card must receive a new card. Otherwise, the implementation of this regulation will not be possible for those who, for any reason, do not have a fuel card.

According to a statement from the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company, those vehicles that have lost their smart fuel cards and have previously registered their information in the government mobile system do not need to re-register, and their smart fuel cards will be issued based on the previous registration and delivered to them by the postal company.

Some car owners have mentioned to the media that given the remaining 20-day deadline until the implementation of the personal fuel card refueling plan, there is a possibility of problems for a large segment of car owners. The National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company has not yet provided accurate information regarding this matter.

The telephone system 09627, as the response center of this company, only plays pre-recorded general responses, and the national government mobile services portal, after entering the phone number of the vehicle registrant, only displays a message regarding the information registered in the system. This situation has caused confusion for individuals waiting to receive their fuel cards.

Efforts to deliver fuel cards continue, while the Minister of Communications and Information Technology stated that there is no technical problem in connecting bank cards to fuel cards. However, the Ministry of Oil has announced that the connection of bank cards to the fuel system is canceled.

Now, ambiguities have arisen for those who requested to connect their bank cards to their fuel cards during the registration process. The issue is whether new fuel cards will be issued for this group before August 10. If the fuel cards are not sent, how will the refueling of this group of car owners be carried out?

Based on the follow-ups, a special team at the Oil Products Distribution Company is planning to prepare and send smart fuel cards to citizens who have registered but have not yet received their fuel cards. However, there is also a possibility of extending the deadline for refueling in the current manner for a limited time.

Fatemeh Kahi, spokesperson for the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company, previously stated: The issue of new fuel cards arose when some individuals either did not have a fuel card or had a fuel card but wanted to receive a new one again. Therefore, these two groups registered in the fuel card system. In the initial plan, it was intended to ration gasoline, but now the issue of rationing has been canceled, and for this reason, the connection of fuel cards to bank cards has also been canceled.
