Javad Noferesti, a senior energy expert, stated regarding the gas imbalance in the country and energy waste in buildings that the energy waste in this sector has reached a point where 50% of energy capacity is wasted. He pointed out that this problem stems from three decades of poor decision-making and emphasized that the lack of implementation of approved laws and weak oversight are among the main factors of this challenge.

Gas Imbalance Challenges

Noferesti announced that the country is currently facing a daily gas deficit of 300 to 400 million cubic meters, and with the cooperation of residential consumers, it is possible to reduce gas consumption by 80 million cubic meters. He noted that to achieve this goal, a 20% saving should be considered to ensure the realization of 10 to 15% of it.

Need for Reforms in Construction

This energy expert pointed to weaknesses in the design and construction of buildings and warned that many design engineers do not pay attention to energy efficiency details. He emphasized that to prevent energy waste, the requirements of Section 19 of the National Building Regulations must be seriously implemented. Noferesti mentioned the lack of insulation in buildings and the use of non-standard energy-consuming devices, adding that 50% of energy waste in buildings is due to these issues.

Noferesti also referred to the poor condition of the production of cooling and heating appliances and stated that many electrical appliances with low energy ratings are available in the market. He emphasized that if instead of fines, demolition orders are issued for buildings that do not comply with the requirements of Section 19, builders will be encouraged to adhere to these requirements.

Finally, Noferesti stressed the need for urgent reforms in design and construction, stating that energy waste could become an opportunity for elites and knowledge-based companies to seek solutions to reduce this waste.
