Himalaya Shipping, which is backed by Tor Olav Trøim, has signed new agreements for the charter of two newcastlemax bulk carriers. These agreements will last at least until October 1, 2027, demonstrating the company's effective management in securing its shipments for the future.

Details of the New Agreements

The new agreements have been signed with the existing lessor of these vessels and will come into effect on November 3. These contracts replace previous agreements that were set to expire on December 31, 2023. The new contract structure consists of a minimum period until October 1, 2027, followed by a three-year structure as permanent contracts. Both vessels will trade based on index-related rates and with significant facts compared to the Baltic 5TC benchmark.

Fleet Management and Market Impact

Himalaya Shipping has been actively managing its fleet charter coverage this year. The company has shifted between index-related exposure and fixed-rate hiring, especially as dry bulk revenues have strengthened. In August, the company led by Lars-Christian Svensen transitioned two newcastlemax vessels to fixed-rate contracts, securing an average of $51,200 per day for the last five months of 2026. Additionally, the company has recently locked in two more vessels at average rates of around $53,000 per day until March 2027.

These new agreements will significantly help meet market needs and increase the company's revenues in the future. Given the market growth and high demand for vessels, this move can be seen as a strategic step towards improving the company's financial position.
