Carnegie Clean Energy is ready to transfer the CETO floating actuator shipment to Bilbao Port in Spain after completing its construction. This actuator is designed as the main component of the CETO wave energy system and is now being prepared for final activities alongside the dock.

Construction and Transfer Details

The CETO floating actuator has been constructed in the Basque Country using a modular design that facilitates road transport. At Bilbao Port, three modular sections will be reassembled alongside the dock, and final elements such as fenders will be attached to them. After this stage, the floating actuator will be moved to the water and to Carnegie's anchorage site at the Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP).

Deployment Plan and Future Stages

Simultaneously, a primary anchoring system will be set up at the anchorage site for the first phase of deployment. Activities related to this phase, which are part of the ACHIEVE program, will begin in November. Additionally, the assembly and testing of the Power Take-Off (PTO) system are underway to prepare for the second phase of deployment. In this phase, the complete CETO system will be connected to the grid, which is scheduled for spring 2027.

Carnegie has announced that the assembly of the PTO module is taking place at SKF, with mechanical and electrical components being installed in each module. After this stage is completed, a final testing program in a controlled environment will be conducted to verify the performance of the PTO architecture, electrical systems, and controls. Following this testing, the modules will be transferred to the port and prepared for integration into the floating actuator.

The CETO technology is a fully submerged point absorber wave energy device. It generates electricity by sitting several meters below the ocean surface and moving with ocean waves, converting kinetic energy into electrical energy. This unit will operate at BiMEP for two years, collecting data to validate CETO technology and advance commercialization.
