Asyad Group in Oman has encountered a significant increase in its workload in the first eight months of 2026. This increase is due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has limited access to ship repair services for regional clients, as well as the expansion of services offered by the group's marine repair subsidiary in Duqm.
Increase in Clients and Projects
The marine repair subsidiary of Asyad Group in Duqm has successfully attracted 56 new international clients, adding to the previous total of 900 clients. Over the past eight months, this center has completed 119 ship maintenance and repair projects. In contrast, only 230 projects were completed in the past 24 months, indicating a 55% increase in workload this year.

Expansion of Services and Infrastructure
In addition to repairs, this center has entered the shipbuilding sector and currently has two projects underway for undisclosed clients. With the addition of a floating dock to the existing facilities, this center has been able to dry-dock 13 ships during this period, whereas only two similar projects were completed last year. To meet service demand, this center has started to berth ships alongside each other for repair projects, which has helped increase production and carry out simultaneous projects.
The increase in workload at this center has positively impacted the skills and experience of the local workforce. Additionally, the local supply network has significantly expanded, with the value of work assigned to local contractors and suppliers reaching $32.5 million in the past eight months. Such work is particularly important for expanding the non-oil sector in Oman's economic activities, which is one of the key goals of the country's economic reforms.
