Transpetrol has recently entered the LR1 tanker construction sector and has ordered two new tankers with a capacity of 75,000 dwt from China. This move is part of the company's efforts to renew its fleet, and the new tankers are expected to be delivered in the first and second quarters of 2030.
Tanker Order Details
The private company Transpetrol has not disclosed the contract price or the type of propulsion system, but it has stated that these two tankers are designed with energy-saving features aimed at reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. However, no further technical information has been shared on this matter.
Transpetrol Fleet Renewal
The recent order will lead to the introduction of a new class of tanker size to Transpetrol's current fleet. The company currently operates six smaller tankers with capacities of around 50,000 dwt, including the tankers Turmoil and Luctor built in 2011, as well as four newer MR tankers delivered between 2019 and 2021. Additionally, Transpetrol also owns four LR2 tankers and two Aframax tankers.
This new contract adds to the fleet renewal efforts that have accelerated this year. In March, Transpetrol ordered two VLGC tankers with a capacity of 90,000 cubic meters from HD Hyundai Samho in South Korea. These dual-fuel vessels will be capable of carrying LPG and ammonia, and are expected to be delivered in the third and fourth quarters of 2028.
Reports indicate that the Korean contract was worth 340.2 billion won (approximately 231 million dollars). With the new LR1 order, Transpetrol has now ordered four new tankers this year.
Furthermore, recent reports suggest that the company Evalend, led by Kriton Lendoudis, has returned to a private yard in China to order four new tankers with a capacity of around 74,000 dwt. Market estimates have priced these vessels at approximately 55 million dollars each, with delivery times projected for 2028 and 2029.
