New research from DP World indicates that supply chain leaders are redesigning their networks towards greater choice and flexibility. These changes are recognized as a source of competitive advantage and growth, especially in unstable economic conditions.

Changes in Strategic Priorities

According to the Pulse CSCO report, based on a survey of 103 supply chain managers across 14 markets and 9 industries conducted in August, 84% of participants stated that flexibility and choice have gained more importance in supply chain strategy compared to cost reduction.

This shift significantly impacts how business networks are designed, with 71% of supply chain leaders indicating their intention to diversify their supplier base in the coming year. These changes also include revisiting inventory, production locations, and sourcing to maintain flexibility in response to changing market conditions.

The New Role of Supply Chain Managers

Yograj Narain, CEO of DP World Group, stated: "Global trade is transforming, and supply chains are changing accordingly. Businesses are creating more choices regarding where to source goods, how to transport them, and how to reach customers instead of retreating from growth."

Narain also emphasized that the role of supply chain managers is increasingly important in shaping business growth, entering new markets, and responding to changes in economic conditions. It is an opportunity to create networks that offer a combination of efficiency and flexibility.

The study shows that this operational model shift aligns with a significant transformation in the leadership role of supply chains. 93% of supply chain managers reported that their role in driving business growth has increased over the past three years.

Choice is also emerging as a tool for growth. 86% of supply chain managers stated that access to alternative and multifaceted trade routes is becoming a competitive advantage, allowing businesses to adapt the way goods are transported in changing conditions.
