The fueling plan with bank cards has been launched in Tehran to increase transparency and reduce problems arising from the use of personal fuel cards. Abbas Basafa, the manager of the smart fuel system, explained the details of this plan in a radio program, stating that if conditions are met, the implementation of this plan will be carried out throughout Tehran by the end of October and then across the entire country.

Details of Fueling with Bank Cards

According to Basafa's explanations, individuals can carry out the fueling process using a valid bank card. After swiping the card, a voucher containing a four-digit code is received, which is used to carry out the fueling process. In this process, there is no need to receive a text message or send information via mobile phone, and authentication and token issuance are done on-site.

Fueling Limit and Infrastructure Security

The manager of the smart fuel system also announced that the fueling limit per session for Tehran is set at 25 liters. He referred to the security of the infrastructure of this plan and stated that one of the reasons for designing this method was to create an alternative fueling method so that in case of technical, security, or cyber issues, the fueling process for the public would not be interrupted.

Basafa also explained about personal fuel cards, stating that these cards remain valid, and their respective quotas will be charged according to the established process on individuals' fuel cards. Additionally, regarding the use of license plate recognition cameras for fuel management, Basafa mentioned that this issue has been examined, and there are challenges such as plate quality and the high cost of professional equipment.

He further referred to the issue of diesel smuggling and the possibility of further smartening this sector, stating: "In the area of diesel, there are online systems, and the fleet quotas are charged based on the information and performance sent by the Road Maintenance Organization and municipalities to the vehicle's fuel cards."

Diesel consumption management has various stakeholders, including the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company, the Road Maintenance Organization, and municipalities. Basafa emphasized that the main goal of using modern technologies in the smart fuel system is to reduce smuggling and prevent off-network supply.
