The energy data group TGS is making progress in oil exploration projects in Asia and Africa. The company is particularly focused on reprocessing seismic data in the Megah exploration in the South China Sea, as well as establishing a 10-year collaboration with the Ministry of Oil and Gas of Gabon.
Reprocessing seismic data in Malaysia
In Malaysia, TGS is reprocessing 514 square kilometers of 3D seismic data in the Megah exploration in block SB-3K located off the coast of Sabah. This project will utilize TGS's previous surveys from 2017 and will employ advanced techniques such as full frequency conversion and depth imaging techniques.

This project commenced in July and is expected to have its final products ready by April 2027. TGS's goal for this project is to produce a high-resolution velocity model and improve diffractive imaging in the Megah field to assist in geological interpretation, opportunity assessment, and planning future appraisal wells.
Long-term collaboration with Gabon
Separately, TGS has signed a 10-year agreement with the Ministry of Oil and Gas of Gabon that encompasses the entire marine data lifecycle. This agreement expands the company's over two-decade relationship with the Gabonese government and includes data brokering, enhancement of legacy surveys, and the potential for new data collection.
The mentioned program covers shallow water areas and significant portions of Gabon's deepwater lands. TGS has stated that this agreement is designed to target more data for companies evaluating exploration opportunities in the marine basins of Central Africa.
The Megah-1 exploration confirmed the presence of a significant oil column in Oligocene carbonates and has enhanced the broader play in the Sabah basin. These advancements clearly strengthen the exploration potential in this region, and advanced processing can play a crucial role in reducing subsurface uncertainties.
