The Norwegian energy data and information company TGS has launched a project to update high-resolution data in its offshore discovery along the coasts of Malaysia. This project is designed to support future well planning and reservoir assessment in the Megah discovery, which will take place in 2025 in block SB-3K off the coast of Sabah, Malaysia.
Data Update Project Details
The TGS project includes reprocessing 3D PSDM data with multi-parameter FWI, covering approximately 514 square kilometers. The processed data will contribute to more reliable geological interpretation, project assessments, and future well planning. This project aims to provide an enhanced dataset using a high-resolution velocity model and full-field imaging, starting in July 2026, with final products scheduled for April 2027.

Utilization of Advanced Technologies
This project enables TGS to apply advanced technologies such as Elastic Multi-Parameter Full Waveform Inversion and depth imaging to its 3D Geostreamer Sabah dataset obtained in 2017. David Hajovsky, Executive Vice President of the Multi-Client division, stated, "The Megah discovery has enhanced the exploration potential of this area, and advanced reprocessing can play a significant role in reducing subsurface uncertainty." He also added, "This project demonstrates TGS's capability to apply advanced imaging trends that can directly support exploration and assessment decisions."
This year has been marked by multiple new contract awards for TGS, including the extension of a seismic exploration campaign off the coast of Indonesia.
