Subsea Cable Assets (SCA) has signed its first contract with Saipem to provide cable transportation and installation services in the Caspian Sea region. This contract, valued at approximately $20 million, includes engineering supply, manufacturing of specialized equipment, installation and operations, as well as relocation and refurbishment stages to support an offshore energy project in the area.
Contract Details and Services Provided
Under this contract signed with Saipem Contracting Netherlands BV, SCA is committed to supplying five cable transport carousels with a capacity of 1,100 tons and related cable management equipment. The cable transport equipment will be based on a cable-laying vessel for loading at JDR Cable Systems located in the UK.

After loading, the cable carousels will be transported to Southeast Europe and then transferred to smaller transport barges using their self-propelled modular transport (SPMT) systems to the Caspian Sea region. This process is designed to facilitate operations and reduce the time required for relocation.
Production Stages and Project Timeline
SCA has begun the production of cable carousels and related equipment at its facilities in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and plans to ship this equipment to Europe by the end of the current year. Sil de Rijke, CEO of SCA, stated that this multi-million dollar contract with Saipem reflects their team's experience in complex cable transportation and management projects, built on extensive records established over recent years.
He added, "The true value of SCA lies not only in the equipment but also in the specialized project management skills to oversee planning, logistics, and execution of projects across multiple geographical areas. This operational expertise, combined with our capabilities in manufacturing and transportation, positions us well to deliver this project safely and on schedule."
Last October, Saipem signed three new contracts in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea for a gas project managed by BP. These contracts include the transportation and installation of a new compression platform weighing 19,000 tons, as well as the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of approximately 26 kilometers of subsea pipelines to connect the new platform to existing facilities.
Marine activities are expected to commence in the third quarter of this year, with project completion targeted for 2029.
