ABS and lomarlabs signed an agreement known as the Master Research Collaboration Agreement (MRCA) aimed at exploring innovative technologies from startups. These technologies seek to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase fuel efficiency, and automate operations in the marine industry.
Collaboration Framework and Objectives
The MRCA agreement provides a framework for both organizations to collaborate with startups by sharing expertise and consulting services, supporting research, development, and testing of innovative solutions for marine applications. Stylianos Papageorgiou, CEO of lomarlabs, stated: "The marine industry is entering a phase where innovation is advancing faster than traditional regulatory frameworks. There is a need for close collaboration between innovators, regulators, flag administrations, and classification societies. Through collaboration and sharing experiences, we can develop robust standards that support innovation while maintaining the highest levels of safety and environmental protection."
Initial Projects and Innovative Technologies
The first project under the MRCA agreement will commence with Blaze Energy. This project involves testing a compact fuel modifier integrated with an engine aimed at accelerating the practical adoption of alternative fuels in marine transportation. Rook Sitar, CEO and co-founder of Blaze Energy, announced: "The most important step towards commercial deployment for marine hardware technology is the transition from laboratory to ship — demonstrating performance in real operational conditions at sea. We are excited to collaborate with ABS and lomarlabs on a program that directly addresses this challenge."
ABS's innovative technology verification services provide a clear approach to validating the performance of new technologies in line with defined performance requirements. This collaboration between ABS and lomarlabs aims to create a conducive environment for innovative advancements in the marine industry and enhance operational capabilities and safety.
