Seyed Ismail Hosseini, a member of the Energy Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, provided explanations regarding the temporary closure of some gas stations due to the lack of gasoline. He announced that any gas station that runs out of gasoline must report to the distribution company to ensure fuel supply. Failing to do so is against the government's decision.

Change in Gasoline Prices and Its Consequences

Hosseini further stated that the government's latest decision regarding gasoline was to increase the price of gasoline on the fuel cards of stations from 5,000 tomans to 10,000 tomans. He emphasized that the prices of the 1,500 tomans and 3,000 tomans gasoline quotas remain unchanged and no decision has been made to reduce the quotas of gas stations.

This member of the Energy Commission, in response to the question of whether the price change on the fuel cards of stations was aimed at managing and reducing fuel consumption, explained that not much time has passed since this decision and no report regarding the impact of this price change on fuel smuggling or consumption reduction has been presented to the commission. He added that relevant reports are to be submitted to the commission as soon as possible.

Future Plans and Price Adjustments

Hosseini also referred to the cabinet's decree in December 2025, which stipulates that gasoline prices will be adjusted each season based on inflation and the country's economic conditions. He stated that apart from the change in gasoline prices on the fuel cards of stations, no other changes in prices have occurred and emphasized that no serious decision has been made to increase prices.

This member of the Energy Commission also stated that in the current wartime conditions of the country, price adjustments must be in line with the economic and social status of society, and in this regard, emphasis should be placed on implementing non-price policies. He explained that parliament representatives have sent requests to the President to transfer fuel subsidies from fuel cards to bank cards and to take serious actions regarding the electrification of vehicles.

Hosseini also mentioned the development of CNG and LPG stations, stating that several issues in this regard have been communicated to the President and their provisions exist in the seventh development plan. While necessary pricing policies are required, emphasis on non-price policies seems essential in the next steps.
