Saeed Tavakoli, CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company, addressed the gas supply situation in a meeting and announced that the gas imbalance this year is expected to reach about 400 million cubic meters. This situation is due to a reduction in gas supply capacity and existing infrastructure problems in the country's energy sector.

Reduction in Capacity and Its Impacts

Tavakoli pointed out that this year the country is facing a reduction in capacity of about 130 million cubic meters. This reduction occurs after we managed to restore 100 million cubic meters of the total 230 million cubic meters of lost capacity following attacks on the facilities of four refineries on March 18. He placed this imbalance alongside past imbalances, which were estimated at about 250 to 300 million cubic meters at peak consumption.

Consumption Management Strategies

The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company also referred to consumption management strategies, stating: "For managing consumption, there are simple solutions such as using thick curtains, sealing windows, and preventing cold air from entering buildings." He also emphasized that the indoor temperature should be set between 18 to 21 degrees Celsius. Tavakoli introduced the "20" campaign, aimed at encouraging individuals to maintain a temperature of 20 degrees in their homes. According to him, for every one degree reduction in indoor temperature, nearly 25 million cubic meters of gas can be saved.

He highlighted the importance of closing air conditioning vents during the cold season and adjusting heating system temperatures, calling for adherence to building infrastructure requirements. Tavakoli stressed that these actions could help improve the gas supply situation.

Development of Gas Distribution Network

Furthermore, Tavakoli referred to the development of the gas distribution network in the country, stating: "We have gas transmission and distribution lines that are 11.5 times the circumference of the Earth." He emphasized the importance of the country's energy mix, noting that it does not matter whether the energy carrier is liquid fuel, gas, or electricity; rather, the infrastructure and systems must meet standard efficiency levels.

Tavakoli also mentioned the impact of increased gas consumption in the residential sector on other sectors, saying: "If a residential consumer increases their gas consumption, this gas will naturally be consumed in this sector, and we will have to use liquid fuel in power plants and other production sectors."

He ultimately emphasized that using alternative fuels in power plants may have environmental pollution effects, and this issue should be considered.
