Oil India Limited has successfully discovered a new source of natural gas in the Matsyapuri field located in the Krishna-Godavari basin. This discovery was made in the offshore block KG-DSF/GSKW/2018 and is classified as an appraisal well.

Drilling and Production Details

The Godavari-1 well was able to produce strong gas flows at a maximum rate of 200,000 standard cubic meters per day (scumd). This discovery represents a new milestone for the company's hydrocarbon portfolio in the public sector (Maharatna CPSE).

Oil India Limited commenced production testing in the area on October 16, 2026, leading to natural gas production at a flow rate of approximately 100,000 scumd. During ongoing testing, the flow rate reached a maximum of 200,000 scumd, and the produced liquid gas volume was reported to be around 170 barrels per day (bopd) at a well pressure of 1815 psi.

Hydrocarbon Presence at Depth

According to the provided information, the presence of hydrocarbons has been reported at depths between 2024 to 2027 meters. Currently, preparations are underway to test the upper zones. This discovery is considered a significant advancement in Oil India's search for hydrocarbons in the KGDSF/GSKW/2018 block in the Krishna-Godavari basin.

In this context, the semi-submersible rig Blackford Dolphin, owned by Dolphin Drilling, has extended its contract with Oil India Limited until October 15, 2026. This rig will be utilized to complete drilling, testing, and abandonment work in eastern India. Built in 1974, this rig has commenced its hydrocarbon exploration campaign with Oil India Limited since November 2024.
