The Neptun Deep project, being developed by OMV Petrom and Romgaz in the Black Sea, is expected to deliver its first gas to the market in the first half of 2027. This progress has been achieved following the installation of a production platform in deep waters and the completion of drilling seven development wells.
Key Role in Romania's Energy Security
Christina Verchere, CEO of OMV Petrom, stated: "The narrowing window for the first gas production is a significant milestone for Neptun Deep and brings us closer to production. This project will play an important role in strengthening Romania's energy security and will position the country as a leading producer in the European Union."

With the installation of the Neptun Alpha platform and recent advancements, OMV Petrom and Romgaz emphasized that the project remains on the right track. After the first gas reaches the NTS entry point, the project will enter a phase of gradual production increase and operational performance testing, with a forecast of achieving stable production by the end of the third quarter of 2027.
Final Stages of Execution and Preparation
Christian Hubati, Executive Board member of OMV Petrom, said: "We have entered the final stages of execution. Drilling operations continue, and we are nearing the completion of key infrastructure, including the offshore pipeline and natural gas measurement station. All systems and facilities must undergo comprehensive inspection, testing, and commissioning to reach the production stage."
Project managers highlighted significant progress this year in the Neptun Deep project, including the installation of the Neptun Alpha production platform and offshore pipeline, and the completion of seven out of ten development wells. Future activities will include continuing the drilling of remaining wells, installing and integrating underwater infrastructure, and executing a comprehensive testing program.
Rozavan Papescu, CEO of Romgaz, also stated: "Every completed stage brings us closer to the production of the first gas. The Neptun Deep project continues to achieve key milestones, which will directly contribute to the energy security of Romania and the European Union."
The Neptun Deep project has estimated recoverable volumes of nearly 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas and is expected to sustain a stable production of 140,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day for nearly ten years.
