Natural gas prices in Europe reached their highest level since 2022. The futures price for natural gas for November at the TTF hub in the Netherlands has surged to around $1003 per 1000 cubic meters. This price increase has occurred while spot gas prices in major trading centers in Europe have also risen above $1000 per 1000 cubic meters.
Factors Influencing the Increase in Gas Prices
The rise in gas prices in Europe coincides with unprecedented declines in reserves of this product ahead of winter and the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. According to reports, European households and industries will face high gas prices for at least another year. Especially if the wars in the Middle East return to normal and we experience a mild winter, this continent will still need to refill its gas reserves.

Disruptions in Middle Eastern Gas Exports
European gas base prices have increased by more than 150% this year, partly due to shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz caused by ongoing wars. These wars have significantly impacted global liquefied natural gas exports from Qatar and the UAE, with about 20% of these exports to Asia being disrupted. While countries like the United States, Canada, and Nigeria have increased their gas exports, disruptions in Middle Eastern gas exports have intensified competition for new shipments of this product and hindered Europe's efforts to refill its storage during the summer.
