Iran is currently facing serious problems in oil exports. With the decline in the country's oil reserves and the inability to use traditional routes, the country is looking for new ways to secure government revenues.
Iran's Oil Export Situation
In recent months, Iran has been unable to effectively export its oil, leading to a sharp decline in government revenues. It is predicted that the country's oil revenues will decrease by 40 percent, which will negatively affect the financing of national programs.
Searching for Alternative Routes
Given that oil and natural gas from Iran are not exported through traditional methods, Iran has turned to seeking alternative routes for oil exports. The country has two rail routes to China, one of which passes through Sarakhs and Turkmenistan. However, transporting oil via rail is not very practical due to high costs and the need for new infrastructure.
Additionally, shipping oil through the Caspian Sea also faces many challenges. Iran's oil transmission network is only designed for importing oil from Russia and does not have the capacity to send oil to other countries. Furthermore, Iran's relations with Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are not such that these countries are willing to cooperate in this regard.
Land routes are also not a suitable option for oil exports due to long delays at the Iran-Turkey border and high costs. Currently, there is no infrastructure for exporting Iranian oil through Iraq, adding to the export limitations.
Iran may be seeking secret agreements with some Gulf countries to allow oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without the risk of attack, but this solution would also yield significantly lower revenues compared to traditional methods.
Currently, Iran's inability to manage sanctions and the lack of effective export options have clearly impacted the halt of oil loading at Khark Island and other locations. Although Iran has faced many challenges throughout its history, it seems that current skills in circumventing sanctions are not sufficient to address the financial problems ahead.
