HD Hyundai has delivered the first container ship specifically designed to eliminate the need for manual lashing to CMA CGM. This ship, which has a capacity of 13,000 TEU, is built using HD Hyundai's innovative lashing-free system and is recognized as one of the largest advancements in the container transport industry.

Design and Technology Details

The new ship utilizes dual-fuel methanol technology and was designed and built by various subsidiaries of HD Hyundai, including HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and HD Hyundai Samho. Instead of using traditional lashing methods that involve workers and dock staff to secure containers with steel bars, it employs an innovative system that allows it to keep containers in place without the need for lashing.

Operational Advantages and Capacity Optimization

This system includes cell guides located above the ship's deck, allowing containers to remain securely in place. HD Hyundai uses a portable bench that fits between the cell guides and is the size of a 40-foot container. This feature allows terminal cranes to manage this bench as part of normal loading operations.

This design not only increases the deck loading capacity by more than 10% compared to existing similar ships but also improves operational stability in adverse weather conditions. Sea trials in September showed that the new ship has less vibration compared to traditional ships that use hatch covers and lashing bridges.

The new technology was officially presented in 2024 at the IMO Sub-Committee on the Transport of Cargo and Containers, and several patents have been obtained for it so far. HD Hyundai plans to extend this technology to small and medium-sized ships as well.
