HD Hyundai, the South Korean shipbuilding giant, has agreed to acquire Goltens Worldwide for $247.5 million in a major deal in the global ship repair market. This purchase, announced on Thursday through HD Hyundai Marine Solution, brings one of the most recognized independent marine engineering and repair businesses under the umbrella of this South Korean company.

History and Performance of Goltens

Founded in 1940 in New York, Goltens has 28 repair locations and 19 workshops worldwide. The company employs around 1,300 specialists and provides services to over 2,300 customers and 5,500 vessels. Goltens, with its reputation in vessel repairs, engine maintenance, upgrades, and specialized engineering services, has the capability to work on engines from multiple manufacturers.

Expansion of HD Hyundai's Services

HD Hyundai Marine Solution, established in 2016 as the after-sales service division of the group, initially focused on supplying spare parts, technical support, and maintenance services for ships built by Hyundai factories. However, it has gradually expanded to offer services including engine services, environmental upgrades, digital management systems for ships, and refueling.

This public company is increasingly positioning itself as a marine service provider throughout the lifecycle of vessels, generating recurring revenues from ships after they leave the shipyard.

Management and Structure of Goltens Post-Acquisition

Following this acquisition, Goltens will retain its current management structure under the leadership of CEO Sandeep Seth and will continue to operate as an independent service provider. This deal is expected to be completed by February 2027 and requires regulatory approvals.

With this acquisition, HD Hyundai aims to strengthen its position in the global ship repair market and expand its range of services. This move reflects the company's long-term strategy to become a leader in the marine repair and service industry.
