Subsea7 has signed a new contract with the Turkish Petrochemical Technology Center (TP-OTC) for the third phase of the development of Turkey's largest gas field. This recently renewed contract includes the installation and commissioning of underwater equipment and production lines at a depth of 2,200 meters in the sea.
Contract Details and Development Stages
This company was previously selected in May 2023 as part of a consortium consisting of SLB, Subsea7, and Saipem for the second phase of the Sakarya gas field development. This phase includes underwater production systems and subsea lines, as part of the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI) contract.
In May 2024, Subsea7 signed a separate contract with TP-OTC for the installation of Turkey's first Floating Production Unit (FPU) in the second phase of this field. Then in August 2025, the company was selected to provide underwater equipment for the third phase of the Sakarya gas field development.
Development and Economic Implications
Recently in March, Subsea7 successfully renewed its contract from August 2025, which includes EPCI of approximately 20 kilometers of production line, 120 kilometers of underwater cables, and other related equipment. This new contract is estimated to be worth between $50 million and $150 million.
The implications of this contract could lead to an increase in Turkey's natural gas production and a reduction in energy import dependence. The Sakarya field, discovered in August 2020, is located about 170 kilometers off the Turkish coast and at a water depth of approximately 2,150 meters. This project will be managed and engineered from Subsea7's office in Istanbul, with work commencing immediately.
