The rescue operation of the MSC Baltic III on the shores of Newfoundland, Canada, is progressing successfully. This ship, which ran aground in February 2025 due to a winter storm, has recently had its front section separated from the hull.
Details of the Rescue Operation
The rescue team used explosives to detach the front section of the ship and towed it toward the shore. This section, being the first part of the hull to be separated, will soon be divided into smaller pieces and sent for recycling. According to reports, about 5,700 tons of the total weight of the ship, which was 207 meters long, has been removed in this phase of the rescue operation.

Planning for Subsequent Phases
Reports indicate that the rescue operation is still ongoing and is expected to continue until 2027. Other sections of the ship, including machinery and other equipment, are also being detached and transferred to recycling facilities. The rescue team is using boats and trucks to facilitate the transfer of parts to the recycling center.
The rescue operation, conducted by Resolve Marine, aims to prevent environmental pollution and restore health to coastal areas. In this regard, the preparation of necessary facilities for recycling and collecting ship parts is nearing completion, and subsequent phases of the operation are expected to begin soon.
