Carnegie Clean Energy has recently listed a new testing facility in the state of Oregon, United States, as a potential site for demonstrating its wave energy conversion technology. This move is part of the company's development plans aimed at improving and expanding the CETO technology.
PacWave South Testing Facility
The newly opened PacWave South wave energy testing facility provides specialized infrastructure for testing wave energy technologies in the ocean and allows devices to connect to the power grid. This facility enables Carnegie to test its technology in a suitable environment and at a larger scale.

CETO Development Plans
Utilizing PacWave means that Carnegie has access to a grid-connected testing environment in the ocean that can aid in the advancement of CETO technology. However, Carnegie has not yet announced this facility as an approved site for the next CETO demonstration. This means that the Oregon facility is among the locations Carnegie is considering for its future plans.
Currently, Carnegie is testing a scaled prototype of CETO at the Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP) in Europe through its ACHIEVE program. The company is also seeking opportunities for CETO in the United States beyond the PacWave facility and is collaborating with Chugachmiut, a consortium of Native tribes in Southern Alaska, to assess local marine conditions and the potential for using the technology in coastal and indigenous communities.
Carnegie views the United States as an important market for wave energy and considers its activities in the country as part of an overall strategy for developing CETO for commercial applications. With the opening of PacWave, the company has identified another pathway for demonstrating its wave energy conversion technology in a grid-connected testing environment.
The next step is to determine whether the Oregon facility will be chosen as the next deployment site for CETO while Carnegie moves towards developing commercially scaled systems.
