Baker Hughes has signed a contract to supply subsea production systems and related services for the first commercial gas development project in Cyprus. This contract, recognized as a significant project, has made Baker Hughes responsible for supplying subsea production systems for the deep Cronos project.
Details of the Cronos Project
The Cronos project includes the supply of subsea trees, wellheads, connectors, manifolds, and surface controls. Baker Hughes has announced that this project will be developed quickly using existing infrastructure in the region. The company will leverage its expertise in deep-water and configurable subsea production solutions to reduce complexity and facilitate service delivery.
Planning and Scheduling
Work on the Cronos project has already begun, and the first equipment delivery is expected in the first half of 2027. This project, considered an important collaboration between Baker Hughes and Eni, has resources equivalent to over 3 trillion cubic feet of gas and is expected to reach a daily production capacity of up to 500 million standard cubic feet. The final investment decision (FID) was made on July 28, and its launch is anticipated for the first half of 2028.
The gas produced from the Cronos project will be transported to Egypt and processed through existing facilities, including the Zohr infrastructure, and then liquefied at the Demeta LNG plant for export to global markets, particularly Europe. Block 6 is managed by Eni, with a 50% stake from the company and 50% from TotalEnergies as the other partner.
