ATE Energy International has commissioned its new cable-laying vessel, Oceanus 1. This vessel, flying the flag of Taiwan, is introduced as a new asset for the country's growing marine energy supply chain.
Specifications of the Oceanus 1 Vessel
The Oceanus 1 vessel arrived at Kaohsiung Port on September 16. It was delivered from Vietnam in collaboration with Pacific Shipbuilding, and the Singapore-based Synergy Marine Group is responsible for its technical management and crew.
Oceanus 1 features an 8000-ton cable carousel, a 250-ton hydraulic frame, a 40-ton service crane, and jet plow capability, allowing for simultaneous cable installation and burial. The vessel also has an SMD Quasar III work-class ROV to support underwater inspections and monitoring of cable laying. Its capacity accommodates up to 77 crew members and project personnel.
ATE's Role in Cable-Laying Operations
ATE Energy is responsible for overseeing the installation and cable-laying operations through its subsea cables division. Mermaid Subsea Services Thailand is also considered a supporting entity for managing cable-laying projects, provided that marine projects and related contracts are secured. No initial allocation for the vessel has been announced yet.
The entry of Oceanus 1 into Taiwan's rapidly expanding marine construction fleet is notable. Dong Fang Offshore is also developing its cable-laying capabilities and will soon add another large vessel to its fleet in the first quarter of 2027. This development is due to the replacement of capacity associated with a long-term lease from DeepOcean in Europe.
