Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) has been named the winner of the 2023 Virginia Port Shipper of the Year Award. This award was presented to the company at the Virginia Maritime Association's International Trade Symposium held in Norfolk. The award is granted to exceptional shippers who work collaboratively with the port to enhance efficiency in the supply chain.
Award Presentation Details and History of Collaboration
This award was presented on Wednesday by Thomas D. Kazoozi, Director of Sales and Marketing at Virginia Port, and A.G. Kelly, Director of Strategic Accounts at the port, to representatives of ADM. This is the second time ADM has received this award; the first time was in 2013 after the opening of the company's yard and international complex in Decatur, Illinois. This facility allows the port to direct more traffic for third parties beyond ADM's own volume.

Importance of Virginia Port's Strategic Location
During the award presentation, one of the company representatives highlighted the importance of the port's strategic location in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, strong rail connections, investment in infrastructure, and the commitment to deepen the port channel to 55 feet. These factors are key to ADM's ability to meet the export grain needs of the company.
Thomas Kazoozi stated at the ceremony, "We have never had a repeat winner, but when we reviewed the nominees, ADM stood out due to its ongoing commitment to improving transportation infrastructure and its reliance on Virginia Port for access to global markets." He added, "Every year, thousands of ADM containers pass through Virginia's marine terminals, bringing significant benefits to the entire global supply chain."
At the ceremony, a team of ADM representatives including Scott Spaulding, Export Container Trader; Brian Niebuhr, Export Container Trader; and Drew Garen, North America Container Trade Manager, were present. Drew Garen remarked, "ADM takes pride in its long-standing and collaborative relationship with Virginia Port. We were here over a decade ago, and we are honored to stand here again. Our ongoing collaboration with the port is vital for moving goods efficiently and reliably so that we can fulfill our promise of timely delivery of products globally."
