Lloyd's Register has issued an Approval in Principle (AiP) for GasNTEK's floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) project, which is capable of delivering one billion cubic feet of gas per day. This design aims to transform the execution methods of large-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) import projects quickly and flexibly.

Key Features of the GasNTEK Project

The new GasNTEK FSRU design, supported by Lloyd's Register's Approval in Principle, offers a high combination of delivery capacity and multi-mode regasification technology. These features position this project among the high-capacity designs under development. José Navarro, Global Gas Technology Director at Lloyd's Register, stated that this design enables operators to deliver gas quickly and reliably under various weather and regulatory conditions.

Future Developments and Advancements

This approval follows Lloyd's Register's independent assessment of the technical and safety principles of the design. The multi-mode regasification system is a key feature of this project, allowing the unit to operate in open, closed, and hybrid modes. GasNTEK intends to advance the FSRU design towards implementation using this approval and support projects for FSRU owners and developers.

Shan Van Der Post, Global Marine Business Director at Lloyd's Register, added that given countries' needs for safe and flexible ways to supply LNG, projects like this represent the evolution of FSRU development beyond capacity towards long-term operational flexibility and resilience. By independently assessing new designs at early stages, we instill confidence in developers, investors, and operators to advance projects from concept to execution.

Lloyd's Register emphasizes that this design enables operators to easily adapt to environmental conditions, regulatory requirements, and project needs, ensuring reliable gas delivery in various operational environments. TG Kim, Chief Operating Officer of GasNTEK, clarified that this FSRU provides a common modular platform that can be configured for different capacities, pressures, and operational conditions.
