Huntington Ingalls Industries saw a 13% increase in stock price on Thursday following the release of its third-quarter financial results. The report included positive news indicating a 6% profit margin for the company in military shipbuilding operations and a favorable status for its new workforce and interns.

Major Contracts and Revenue Growth

As the primary builder of military ships for the United States, Huntington Ingalls currently has 90% of its targeted revenue under contract with the federal government through 2030. The company builds all of the country's aircraft carriers and amphibious ships and also shares half of the submarines with Electric Boat. Additionally, the company has a stake in the new Medium Unmanned Surface Vehicle (MUSV) program, which is being executed in collaboration with three smaller builders along the Gulf Coast.

Expansion of Activities and New Contracts

In the third quarter, Huntington Ingalls secured $32 billion in new contracts, primarily for the construction of nuclear submarines. Revenue from shipbuilding during this period increased by 14%. Despite delays in all U.S. Navy shipbuilding contracts, Huntington Ingalls has seen improvements in increasing its operational load by strengthening outsourcing efforts to smaller workshops. Chris Kastner, President and CEO of the company, stated in an earnings call: "Distributed shipbuilding has reached the targeted level, and we expect to experience annual growth of over 30%."

The company is also focused on increasing profitability in its Mission Technologies sector, with its EBITDA reaching 10% since the beginning of the year. This sector has secured a $2.2 billion surveillance contract to support U.S. Southern Command's counter-narcotics operations in Central and South America. Additionally, this sector has provided $330 million worth of work for the Air Force in implementing corporate-quality artificial intelligence solutions.

Huntington Ingalls continues to invest in containerized or palletized systems that can be deployed from offshore or land-based platforms. This includes modular solutions for "advanced EW capabilities, directed energy, kinetic launch systems, and anti-UAV systems." Andy Green, Head of Mission Technologies, emphasized these points.
