Ørsted, the Danish renewable energy giant, has added a third electric underwater robot from Saab to its fleet. This purchase is aimed at enhancing underwater maintenance operations in the company's offshore wind projects.
Expansion of the Robotic Fleet
Saab UK, a legal entity of the Swedish company Saab, has received an order for a Seaeye Cougar XT Compact robot from Ørsted. This robot will be added to Ørsted's Saab Seaeye fleet, bringing the total to three Cougars to support inspection and maintenance operations in offshore wind projects.

Robot Performance and Capabilities
The electrical architecture of this robot provides it with precise control and maneuverability, making it highly suitable for inspection and intervention tasks in complex underwater environments. The compact and flexible design of this robot is combined with the power and reliability needed for offshore operations.
The CEO of Seaeye at Saab UK stated, "We are very pleased to receive this order from Ørsted. The expansion of the Saab Seaeye fleet with the third Cougar system demonstrates the company's trust in our technology and its ability to support inspection and maintenance operations in offshore wind assets."
The Role of Underwater Robots
Saab UK emphasizes that Ørsted relies on advanced underwater technology to help monitor the integrity of critical infrastructure, including foundations, cables, and other underwater assets. According to the company, remotely operated robots play a vital role in these operations, aiding in efficient inspections and maintenance activities, thereby maximizing asset utilization and supporting energy production.
Saab Seaeye robots have been operating in some of the world's toughest underwater environments for over four decades, and the Cougar XT Compact continues this legacy to assist those responsible for maintaining the infrastructure supporting global energy transmission.
Last year, UAE-based CCC (Underwater Engineering) expanded its underwater fleet to nine Saab remotely operated robots to enhance its offshore inspection and construction capabilities.
