Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced to reporters on Saturday, October 12, that he has a "decision" regarding Iran and added: "Iran is severely broken. Therefore, the only question is whether things will proceed the easy way or the hard way." These remarks come as tensions between Tehran and Washington have reached their peak.

Iran's Conditions for Reopening the Strait of Hormuz

Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, emphasized in his pre-speech remarks during the public session of the Assembly on the same day that the Strait of Hormuz will not reopen until the seven conditions of the Islamic Republic, based on the Islamabad agreement, are met. He added that the Americans "recently proposed suggestions through intermediaries," but stressed that "the era of wasting time and dictating unilateral demands is over." The details of these seven conditions were not disclosed in his speech.

These remarks come amid the ongoing diplomatic stalemate between Tehran and Washington and increasing speculation about the possibility of a resumption of broader conflicts. Abbas Araqchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, had received the U.S. response to Iran's seven-day proposal through Qatari intermediaries a few days earlier. This proposal anticipates the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the resumption of normal shipping traffic if Iran's conditions are met.

Increasing Tensions and Military Readiness

Alongside these developments, U.S. officials have emphasized that if diplomatic efforts fail, military options will remain on the table. Trump has stated that a war with Iran could end "very soon" and has once again raised the possibility of escalating military operations.

Abbas Araqchi also warned foreign ambassadors in Tehran that "if enemies take the path of military confrontation again, they will receive a stronger response than before." These remarks clearly indicate an increase in military readiness on both sides and the likelihood of a harsher Iranian reaction if U.S. attacks resume.

Reports indicate that the Pentagon is deploying the "Theodore Roosevelt" carrier strike group and the amphibious group "Makin Island" to the Middle East. This move could add 9,000 to 10,000 more troops to the region and increase the number of U.S. aircraft carriers there to three. According to the U.S. Secretary of Defense, Trump is determined to prevent the Islamic Republic from acquiring nuclear weapons, and the Pentagon's duty is to provide the President with "all possible military options."
