Subsea Micropiles will invest £5 million (equivalent to €6 million) to expand its production and marine operations at Montrose Port in Scotland. This project will be supported by £1.45 million (approximately €1.7 million) from Scottish Enterprise.

Infrastructure and Production Expansion

The aim of this investment is to develop infrastructure and production capabilities at Montrose Port to support the production and maintenance of subsea technologies in marine research and construction. The project is expected to create around 80 new jobs over the next three to five years.

Investment Announcement and New Facilities

Subsea Micropiles announced this investment on September 28, during a visit by Scotland's First Minister, John Swinney, to its facilities in Montrose. Additionally, SSE has announced that it has chosen Montrose Port as the operations and maintenance base for the Berwick Bank B offshore wind farm with a capacity of 1.4 gigawatts.

Subsea Micropiles is developing technologies related to marine foundations and anchors, which include subsea site investigations, foundation engineering, and subsea construction. The company has micro-piling technologies for marine construction using underwater robotics and remote drilling, as well as high-resolution seismic imaging technology called Acoustic Zoom for assessing seabed conditions.

Local Production Development and Job Opportunities

The company has stated that the expanded facilities in Montrose could ultimately support high-volume production for its anchor and foundation systems, thereby creating market development opportunities in marine engineering, vessel services, and a broader marine supply chain.
