This attack comes as pirates typically seek out vessels with small and vulnerable crews. The Azini was particularly vulnerable at the time of the attack due to its engagement in fishing activities.
Condition of the Crew and Security Implications
Reports indicate that in addition to the two Somali guards, 21 other crew members were also on board. The safety status of these crew members remains unclear, and the European Union Maritime Security Center (MSCIO) has not disclosed their exact number. This incident follows an increase in pirate attacks off the coast of Somalia, raising security concerns in the region.
It is worth noting that piracy off the coast of Somalia has a history, and this country has become an attractive location for pirates due to security weaknesses at sea. In light of this incident, it is likely that naval forces from various countries will take measures to enhance security in the area.
