London marine insurers have recently significantly expanded their high-risk area due to rising tensions and maritime attacks in the Black Sea. This decision comes in the wake of intensified conflicts between Ukraine and Russia and impacts commercial activities in this vital waterway.
The Importance of the Black Sea for Global Trade
The Black Sea is a key route for transporting grain, crude oil, and refined products. This waterway is jointly used by the countries of Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, and Turkey. In recent months, conflicts in this region have increased, leading to retaliatory attacks on commercial vessels.
