Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the necessity of enhancing inter-agency coordination and strengthening continuous oversight during a meeting reviewing the optimization and management of fuel consumption. In this meeting, he received reports on the performance of related agencies and stressed the identification of bottlenecks in resource wastage and the precise follow-up of assigned responsibilities.

Reduction of Fuel Consumption and the Need for Distribution Organization

In this meeting, a report was presented on the actions taken to organize the fuel distribution system and prevent the misuse of fuel cards. Estimates indicate that these actions could lead to a daily reduction of about 3 to 5 million liters in fuel consumption. Additionally, the amount of fuel imports in October has decreased by 58% compared to the same period last year.

Pezeshkian emphasized that the main goal of the government in reforming the energy subsidy distribution mechanisms is not to generate revenue, stating: "The resources obtained from managing consumption and reducing wastage should be allocated to strengthening the livelihoods of low-income groups. What is important for the government is establishing justice."

The Necessity of Firm Action Against Offenders

The President also highlighted the importance of reforming the subsidy allocation mechanisms and stressed that the subsidy allocation system should be reformed in a way that prioritizes public interests and the needs of disadvantaged groups. He emphasized the need to prevent the diversion of subsidized products and combat fuel smuggling, calling for decisive and targeted action against offenders.

Pezeshkian further added: "Those involved in fuel smuggling must be dealt with, and their access to subsidized quotas, including through the cancellation or blocking of fuel cards, should be restricted according to regulations and after confirming the offense." He also stressed the need for establishing a continuous and data-driven oversight system over the supply chain, transfer, and consumption of fuel.

The President, referring to the governance teachings of Imam Ali (AS), emphasized the necessity of prioritizing public interests over the interests of affluent groups, stating: "The satisfaction of the general public can overshadow the discontent of specific groups; because it is the general public that forms the foundations of a strong society."

In conclusion, Pezeshkian called on all government agencies to cooperate in managing fuel consumption and emphasized the necessity of transparency of information and effective action against violations. He clarified that all benefits obtained from reducing consumption and preventing fuel wastage should be allocated to the target community, and none of the government agencies should claim any rights over these resources.
