PD Ports has centralized port services and ship repairs at a new location in Middlesbrough by launching a new marine operations and engineering base on the River Tees. This multimillion-pound project is established at Cargo Fleet Wharf, located in the Teesport trade park, and replaces the old facilities on Vulcan Street that have been in use since the 1960s.

Details of the New Base

The new three-story building brings together marine operations and engineering teams in one location and includes staff responsible for supporting pilots, dredging, hydrographic surveying, and navigation infrastructure. This base also includes a specialized workshop where small marine vessels can be taken out of the water and brought in for maintenance and repairs.

Benefits of Launching the New Base

PD Ports announced that the launch of this base allows the company to perform more work in-house and reduces operational issues related to servicing vessels at the old locations. This operator is responsible for managing navigation and maritime safety on the River Tees and Hartlepool port as a legal port authority. The company's marine fleet supports commercial transport across the river and includes cargo terminals, industrial facilities, and marine energy operations.

This recent investment follows spending on marine equipment, including the company's dredger Emerald Duchess. PD Ports is also advancing plans for a larger Teesport Offshore Gateway designed to accommodate offshore wind energy manufacturing, assembly, and logistics activities. This proposed development is separate from the newly established facilities at Cargo Fleet Wharf.
