With these purchases, Navios's VLCC tanker construction program will reach a total of eight vessels. In August, the company had purchased three other VLCC tankers worth $361.5 million, which, based on four previous units worth $482 million, increased the company's commitment to seven super tankers to $843.5 million.
Fleet Expansion and Financial Advancements
The new VLCC tanker being added to this collection brings the investment in this series to $967.5 million. Additionally, the two new MR2 tankers, each costing $45.6 million, provide greater diversity to Navios's investments in product tankers.
Currently, Navios has a total of 21 new tankers in its production line, including eight VLCCs, eight aframax/LR2s, and five MR2s. The company's overall fleet consists of 182 vessels, including 65 bulk carriers, 54 container ships, and 63 tankers.
Navios's recent results also confirmed the purchase of four new container ships worth $488 million with a capacity of 10,100 TEU, which was agreed upon in September. This deal has been attributed to HJ Shipbuilding & Construction in South Korea.
Furthermore, Navios has contracted a total of $735.1 million in rental income for eight container ships, four tankers, and two bulk carriers, thereby raising its total rental income to $5 billion by 2037.
