Nasrollah Pejmanfar, referring to the review of the gas imbalance situation in recent meetings of the Article 90 Commission of the Parliament, stated: The issue of gas supply in the upcoming winter is one of the serious topics of the country, and estimates also indicate that we may face a shortfall in gas supply during peak consumption days.

Immediate Actions to Reduce Gas Consumption

In such circumstances, alongside actions taken to increase production and strengthen infrastructure, reducing consumption and preventing gas waste should be pursued as immediate solutions to get through the winter.

He emphasized the high potential for gas savings in the residential sector, adding: In the cold months, the residential sector accounts for a significant portion of the country's gas consumption, and there is also a high capacity for reducing consumption in this sector. However, the issue should not be solely reduced to people's behavior or the high consumption of households. Part of the high consumption is due to inefficient buildings, outdated boiler rooms, inadequate heating equipment, and low efficiency.

Investment in Energy Optimization

The head of the Article 90 Commission of the Parliament pointed to the necessity of investment for optimizing energy consumption and stated: Equipment needs to be upgraded, boiler rooms need to be improved, and buildings need to be more efficient. In this process, utilizing the capacity of the private sector is also of special importance. One of the most important mechanisms designed for the entry of the private sector into the area of reducing consumption is gas contractor companies.

Pejmanfar stated: In this model, the private sector invests its resources and execution capabilities into optimization projects, creates consumption reductions, and in return benefits from the achieved savings. Thus, part of the capital needed for consumption optimization can be provided through the private sector.

He said: The more we can reduce unnecessary consumption and gas waste before winter, the less pressure will be placed on the network and other sectors of the country. Overcoming the gas imbalance in winter is not possible without reducing consumption, and to achieve this reduction, the investment capacity and execution capabilities of the private sector must be seriously activated.
