Mohammad Reza Aref, the First Vice President, announced at the meeting of the prime ministers of the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, that Iran is ready to enhance economic capacities within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Aref emphasized that Iran has diverse operational proposals in the fields of trade, economy, finance, transit, energy, digital, cultural, and humanitarian.

Development of Energy Cooperation

Aref stressed the necessity of deepening cooperation in the energy sector and proposed the establishment of an energy consortium for the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. In his view, this consortium should go beyond oil and gas trade and include various aspects of production, transmission, distribution, infrastructure security, energy market financing, and new technologies. He added that the implementation of this energy cooperation strategy should align with the interests of the member countries by 2030 and be accompanied by joint projects.

Investment in New Technologies

The First Vice President stated that Iran is ready to share its scientific and technological capacities with the member countries and collaborate in the formation of joint knowledge-based companies, especially in the field of new technologies. Aref also emphasized the importance of increasing productivity and decarbonizing the oil and gas industries, stating that energy security should not be overlooked in the energy transition process.

South Pars - Afghanistan - Tajikistan Energy Corridor Plan

In a meeting with Emomali Rahmon, the President of Tajikistan, Aref announced Iran's readiness to cooperate in oil and gas exploration activities and petrochemical industries. Aref also referred to Rahmon's proposed plan for the establishment of the South Pars - Afghanistan - Tajikistan energy corridor, describing it as a positive and constructive initiative. This plan was presented as an opportunity for the export of Iranian oil products to Tajikistan and to help connect this country to the open waters of the Persian Gulf.

Ultimately, Aref emphasized the importance of energy cooperation in securing mutual interests and strengthening economic relations among the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, declaring that Iran will play an active role in this regard.
