Minesto has set a record for completing a service operation at its tidal Dragon 4 power plant in just 48 hours. This operation included the recovery, inspection, and reconditioning of equipment at marine locations on October 15.
Details of the Service Operation
Minesto announced that after years of improvements in operational processes, this is the fastest return to date. The complete service operation on the Dragon 4 power plant in Vestmannasund, Faroe Islands, involved the recovery and extraction of the nozzle for inspection of the improved generator after its first ten weeks of operation, maintenance activities, reassembly, quality and performance checks, and reconditioning of equipment at sea. This work was carried out during a low-tide production period.

Benefits of Minesto Technology
Martin Edlund, CEO of Minesto, said: "The ability to perform a complete service operation and return the system to electricity production in just 48 hours demonstrates a key competitive advantage of our technology." He added: "High performance is important, but the ability to maintain the system economically is equally important. Our method does not rely on complex and costly infrastructure, making it suitable for remote locations and areas without port infrastructure and access to advanced marine engineering capabilities."
Minesto points out that a central feature of this concept is the ability to swap subsystems, such as nozzles, during short service campaigns. By using replacement modules, further inspections, maintenance activities, and updates can be performed onshore without impacting availability and energy production.
Brent Eric Wester, CTO of Minesto, said: "This successful return demonstrates the maturity of Dragon technology and the efficiency of our operational procedures. Through long-term collaborations with local contractor SJH Offshore, we have gradually improved our methods through repeated campaigns, and today we can perform advanced service operations while minimizing downtime. This capability becomes increasingly valuable as we progress towards larger commercial deployments and multi-unit installations."
