Liquimar Tankers, the Greek owner of tankers, has ordered three new Suezmax tankers with a capacity of 157,000 dwt in China. This move is aimed at increasing crude oil transport capacity and in response to the strong second-hand tanker market.

Details of the Tanker Order

According to information from construction sources, Liquimar Tankers has placed an order for three new tankers with Jiangsu New Hantong Ship Heavy Industry. These tankers, which will operate on conventional fuel, are expected to be delivered in the second half of 2030. The approximate price for each of these tankers is estimated to be around $86 million, bringing the total investment for this order to about $258 million.

Background and Financial Aspects of the Deal

This new order comes after the sale of two older Suezmax tankers, named Orpheas and Evridiki, to the Dubai-based energy trader, Onex DMCC. These two tankers, built in 2007, were sold for approximately $68 million each, generating a total net income of $136 million for Liquimar. These transactions were recorded in September market data.

Liquimar had previously been recognized this year as the owner of another tanker project in China. In August, the construction company Hengli Heavy Industries was identified as the builder of the aframax/LR2 tanker with a capacity of 113,500 dwt named Priamos, marking Liquimar's return to tanker construction activities after a long absence.

Liquimar was established in 1990 and was created as part of its parent company, Dioryx Maritime Corp, to expand its operations from dry and container shipping to the tanker sector, becoming an independent entity in 1995.

With this recent deal, Liquimar adds another name to the list of Suezmax orders at New Hantong. Earlier this year, Eyal Ofer, owner of Zodiac Maritime, ordered four Suezmax tankers at this yard for delivery in 2029, bringing the total to nine tankers in this sector.
