Kongsberg Maritime has signed a new contract with IWS Fleet AS, a subsidiary of Integrated Wind Solutions (IWS), for the design and supply of integrated technology solutions for four new Skywalker class (CSOV) vessels.

Details of the New Vessels

The vessels will be built by Nantong Rainbow Offshore & Engineering Equipment and are designed to support operations in the offshore wind energy sector. These vessels are being constructed based on the new design UT 5519 DEx from Kongsberg Maritime, showcasing the next generation of the Skywalker class and developed from the success and operational experience of the first six vessels delivered since 2023.

Performance and Features of the Vessels

The Skywalker class vessels are specifically designed for operations in offshore wind farms and act as advanced walk-to-work platforms, allowing technicians to live and work at sea for extended periods. Each vessel has the capacity to accommodate up to 120 people in high-standard living conditions, providing a safe and comfortable environment for work close to offshore assets.

With this new contract, the series of Skywalker class vessels will increase to ten vessels, reinforcing their position as a reliable platform for supporting installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities in offshore wind. The vessels feature a twin-hull design that enables efficient operations and quick maneuvering between turbines, helping operators achieve maximum efficiency while reducing transit time in wind farms.

Kongsberg Maritime's ship design sales manager, Per Stale Nikrem, noted that this new contract represents the continuation of collaboration between IWS Fleet and Kongsberg Maritime. He also emphasized that this new order reflects the trust of owners and operators in the specific design for offshore wind operational needs.

The vessels will also include power supply systems, navigation, and dynamic positioning systems that, using permanent magnet motor technology, provide a high level of energy efficiency with rapid response and precise vessel control. The first vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2029.
