JPMorganChase has appointed two senior leaders to help expand support for the U.S. shipbuilding and maritime industry under the $1.5 trillion Security and Resilience Initiative (SRI). This initiative, which will last for 10 years, aims to strengthen critical industries for economic and national security.
Recent Developments in the Shipbuilding Industry
These appointments come a year after the announcement of JPMorganChase's extensive investment initiative, which specifically identified the construction of commercial and military vessels as a priority for rebuilding the U.S. industrial capacity. Hamilton, with over 30 years of experience in transportation and shipbuilding, has been appointed as one of the new leaders and will work alongside Rask to help expand domestic shipbuilding capacity and strengthen the maritime supply chain.

Investment in Shipbuilding
JPMorganChase is working to facilitate, finance, and invest $1.5 trillion over a decade in sectors including advanced manufacturing, defense, energy, and strategic technologies. This figure includes approximately $1 trillion in financing and other activities already planned by the bank, along with up to $500 billion in additional activities.
Shipbuilding is one of the industries identified for support, and the bank is looking to build commercial and military vessels as part of broader efforts to strengthen domestic production and reduce reliance on foreign supply chains. In July, JPMorganChase announced $24 million in support for shipbuilding in Philadelphia, which includes initiatives for workforce development and local suppliers.
These appointments come as the United States continues to seek to rebuild its shipbuilding capacity after decades of decline. American shipyards account for less than 1% of global commercial ship construction, while China holds nearly half of that share, leaving the U.S. heavily reliant on ships built abroad.
