Iran had a pavilion covering more than a thousand square meters at the Innoprom 2026 industrial exhibition in Belarus. This pavilion was a gathering place for about 20 Iranian companies from the petrochemical, oil and gas, steel, mining, and investment sectors. However, given the volume and diversity of the companies, the main question is what achievements have been brought for Iran's mining sector and mineral industries.

Assessment of Mining Partnerships

Officials from the Trade Development Organization announced that Iran's pavilion was the largest at this event after the host country. However, to assess the success of this participation, attention must be paid to the number of private mining companies that participated in this trip, the negotiations conducted, and their outcomes. Did these negotiations lead to contracts, purchase orders, or joint investments?

The presence of companies like BELAZ at this exhibition was particularly significant for Iran's mining sector. This company spoke about new technologies in the field of mining machinery, including robotics and machine vision, which can contribute to the future of smart mining. Additionally, KSC-Systems presented systems for laser leveling and troubleshooting industrial equipment.

Technologies Needed for Iran's Mining Sector

The technologies presented at this exhibition could play a significant role in reducing machinery downtime, predictive maintenance, and increasing the productivity of the mining fleet. These are precisely the areas that Iran's mining sector needs. However, the question remains whether Iranian managers merely observed these technologies or if there is a plan for their transfer and utilization.

To date, public reports on the selection of specific technologies for transfer to Iran and their implementation stages have been incomplete. Although agreements were formed on the sidelines of Innoprom, no measurable output has yet been seen in the mining sector. To realize the economic value of the memorandums, it is necessary to specify the project name, investment amount, Iranian and foreign parties, transferred technologies, and execution timelines.

Therefore, the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, IDRO, IMIDRO, and the Trade Development Organization should publish a transparent report that includes the number of private mining companies, negotiations conducted, and contracts or agreements formed. Otherwise, assessing the success of industrial trips based on pavilion size and number of meetings would be incorrect. For Iran's mining sector, the true measure of success includes new machinery, innovative technologies, new investments, and executable contracts.
