Iran's daily crude oil production capacity reached 3.715 million barrels in October 2026. This increase in production capacity, despite sanctions and credit constraints, indicates a positive trend in Iran's oil industry.
Production Growth and Revitalization of Low-Yield Wells
The country's crude oil production capacity has improved from 3 million and 430 thousand barrels in September 2024 to 3 million and 715 thousand barrels in October 2026. This improvement is equivalent to 8.3 percent and represents the return of 285,000 barrels of new capacity. Additionally, the current production trend in October 2026 shows a daily increase of 55,000 barrels of crude oil compared to the same month in 2025.

One of the strategic focuses during this period has been the optimization of surface facilities and the revitalization of idle assets. These actions include activating existing reserves, restoring low-yield wells, and accelerating the completion of shared fields in West Karun. For this purpose, an emergency plan for a 250,000-barrel increase in crude oil production has been initiated with a $3 billion investment package.
Investment and Development of Shared Fields
In the upstream oil sector, development packages worth approximately 13 billion euros have been approved for shared fields such as Azadegan, Azar, Changuleh, and Band-e-Karkheh. Additionally, with the signing of new contracts, the capacity for outsourced processing to the private sector has reached a record 430,000 barrels per day.
To increase production capacity, 129 drilling rigs are operating around the clock, and contracts for the supply of 20 new rigs worth one billion dollars have been signed. These actions reflect a focus on drilling and extraction from the country's oil fields.
Future Challenges and New Technologies
Maintaining the record production of 3.7 million barrels poses a more complex challenge than achieving it. Many reservoirs are in the second half of their lifespan, and the oil industry must create approximately 300,000 barrels of new compensatory capacity annually. Therefore, the use of modern enhanced oil recovery (EOR and IOR) methods and the injection of gas and water into aging fields is essential.
Alongside this, capturing associated gas as a reliable source for supplying feedstock to petrochemical units and ensuring the stability of the gas network in winter is important. These measures will help mitigate the energy crisis and provide sustainable energy during the cold season.
Ultimately, recording a capacity of 3.715 million barrels on the international economic stage will increase global interest in Iran's oil and solidify Tehran's bargaining power in the energy market.
