Statistics on Executions and Their Relation to Protests

This statistics cover recorded executions from January 7, 2025, amidst the protests in January, to October 5, 2026. According to human rights organizations and activists, these figures are minimal and only include reported and verified cases. During this period, 35 individuals were executed in cases related to the January protests, 9 in cases related to the 12-day and 40-day wars, and 26 in other political and ideological cases.

Increase in Executions and Its Reasons

The execution of political prisoners during this time has intensified, while the detention and case formation of some of them date back years; from the protests of "Women, Life, Freedom" to cases where the accused had been in prison for nearly 9 years. The Iran Human Rights Organization had recorded the execution of 32 individuals in connection with the January protests by October 5. With the execution of Alireza Raisi and Alireza Sepahi in Isfahan on October 5 and Arvin Khairkhah in Shahroud, the number of executions related to these protests reaches 35.

Among the executed during this period, the cases of 9 individuals were related to the 12-day or 40-day wars. Alongside them, 26 others were executed in political and ideological cases, attributed to connections with opposition groups, previous protests, or accusations of espionage in past years. Of these 26 individuals, 13 were executed on charges of collaboration or membership in opposition parties and movements.

According to human rights reports, 194 political prisoners are currently under death sentences. Of this group, 113 are related to the January protests, 10 to the two recent wars, and 71 to other cases. The judicial status of individuals on this list varies and includes first-instance rulings, confirmed rulings, and cases under appeal or re-examination.
